I do not have personal experience with Aquaphor and have not used it on my son. But one of my friends has related to me her experience of using Aquaphor, which as recommended by the pediatrician, on her 3 year old daughter. According to the doctor, Aquaphor is recommended for eczema as it provides the most moisture for the skin. To cut the long story short, my friend actually found that Aquaphor actually makes the condition worse. The first reason is Aquaphor clog up pores, making difficult for the skin to release toxins. Secondly, Aquaphor contains lanolin alcohol and mineral oil, which are both hard on the skin. Aquaphor can provide relief for a short period but can actually make the condition worse in the long run.
Go for more natural way of moisturizing your skin instead. Natural ingredients do not have harmful side effects and more welcome by your skin. You can try this method : Grind oatmeal until the texture is smooth. (Alternatively you can buy colloidal oatmeal from any organic store). During bath time, just sprinkle some into the bath water. You can also make a paste with the ground oatmeal and rub it on the skin. Oatmeal works wonders for my son’s skin, try it. If you find it too time consuming to grind the oatmeal, you can try Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Body Wash, with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal, which works just as well.
