“My friends were like, ‘Oh man, you’ve got the herpes!’ and I’m like, ‘No I don’t have herpes. Please don’t joke that I have herpes.’” An 18 yr old describes the difficulty in managing eczema while in college. Although it is incurable, he shares tricks on how to avoid flare-ups and how to manage it through cold, dry weather.
It isn’t that bad until it escalates, especially if you scratch a lot. Hope you can keep it from out of control and not have to endure what many other unfortunate people have gone through.
Eczema is NOT incurable. My father has had it when he was younger, now it’s completely gone. I also have eczema. It’s curable; you need to know what to use on your skin and keep at it. I have dramatically less patches on my skin than when I first developed it. Please do your research so you can enjoy a comfortable life.
drink lots lots of water !!
My eczema actually isn’t that bad its just some little bumps on my back arms and legs
i’M 13 YEARS OLD AND i HAVE ECZEMA TOO. lUCKILY i HAVE 2 OINTMENTS CALLED DESONIDE AND AND TRICOLONE THEY HAVE HELPED TREMENDLESSY NOW ALL I BASICALLY HAVE IS SCARS FROM IT . I know exactly how you feel. I often wish I was somebody else : /
I’m on methatrexate for my eczema though, which has helped HEAPS! But I’m covered in these raised, hard, red scars all over my body from the scratching, so I still get weird looks in the street. Hope your eczema clears up a little soon! x
i know =(
i have it on the folds on my arms and legs and i have to use cream and other crap and its really itchy and really cracky red like cabin fever
Im 11 and have had Severe eczema since i was a week old and its really annoying!
When its hot my skin is terrible, when its cold my skin is terrible! If i go to a sleepover i have to take my creams and Piriton. I went on a school holiday to the isle of wight and it was SOO hot, lickily there was a very good nurse there that helped me through all the itching bleeding and restless nights!
I know how you feel! I can’t stay over at anyone’s house cos I have to have all my creams with me and its so embarrassing, no body really realizes how debilitating it is! Sometimes you just wish you could be someone else.
xxx
OMG I’m exactly the same! I hate people staring at me and I feel like no one understands and I’m alone. Steroid creams have helped loads and over the past few years mine has really improved but it my life is so different to what it would be if I didn’t have it. I never wear short sleeves except at home and I wish I had the confidence to do that.

I also have eczema and when it gets bad, you cant just not scratch.
Rawr i do the samething as you i only wear long sleeves now because my eczema and only wear short sleeves at home because i dont like other people looking at my skin
The eczema care line from Aveeno is good, but it’s so hard to find now =[
My eczema left some small darkish blotches on my back. Anyone know how to get rid of it?
omg, i think that’s what i have. i’ve been having this since i was small, but now i’m 18and i really know what it is.
This may not work for everyone, but I’ve gotten some helpful ointments like Clobetasol from dermatologists. But it’s a strong ointment and cannot be applied to your face.
It can be hard to find a good doctor because most of them just don’t know/care about your problems, take your money and then walk away to see the next sucker — oops, I mean patient.
I completely agree with you, I’m 16 now and my eczema has definitely gotten worse since puberty and I’m seeing a skin specialist who has decided that I try out UVB light therapy which I really hope will help my skin, maybe the next time you see your doctor (specialist) ask him about light therapy maybe it will help?
I have it on my whole body and it suck’s ass! Im actually reserching it because i just had an inflamation on my arms right now and i can’t stop itching and i usually itch and it start’s to bleed. Im 14 and i do not know what to do im going to see a sermatologist. Plus i have had it since i was born. i ALWAYS wear long sleeves i only wear short sleeves at home because it’s usually only my mom home and when it isn’t visible during school time. But this has changed my life.
…also anyone with moderate ezcema (which is what i have or at least what the doctors tell me) try derma-smoothe/fs, its worked for me since i was 14 and i havent have another breakout for once i’m able to go to the beach and feel comfortable
i have eczema since i was 4 years old and have been dealing with it for a really long time ( i am now 19), the most important thing is to keep moisturized!! you keep moisturized it will prevent breakouts (breakouts at least in eczema are when you get a rash/scabs etc…) wash with unscented soaps, don’t take too long in the shower, don’t wear itchy fabrics, and most importantly dont scratch! you scratch, you get a rash
Its true. People don’t realise how debilitating eczema really is, and that is most likely why nobody has bothered to try and find a cure.
My eczema stops me from going out with friends, even going shopping! I can’t stay at people’s places, I can’t even get a job because whenever I have an interview they turn me away because of the look of my skin. Some guy called me a ‘junkie’ the other day (from the spots on my skin.) Fuck you, eczema!
That’s actually not true. Most of the time its a genetic problem. I’ve had mine since I was 6 weeks old. If you know you have an allergy then that will make it worse, yes.
Watch your diet! eczema are mild allergic reaction to food or medications.
im 14 and i suffer from it i have it around my lips, on my back, on my left hand and on my ears so i have long hair to cover it.
goes in summer n comes back at this time of year
pleaz comment on this because i get picked on at school about it and i feel alone.
