Dealing with Eczema in College: Managing the Incurable (Dramatic Health)
Posted under Ezema related videos by Audrey Lynn“My friends were like, ‘Oh man, you’ve got the herpes!’ and I’m like, ‘No I don’t have herpes. Please don’t joke that I have herpes.’” An 18 yr old describes the difficulty in managing eczema while in college. Although it is incurable, he shares tricks on how to avoid flare-ups and how to manage it through cold, dry weather.

um great advice, geek.
my skin gets so bad i cant work im 17 and just coming into my workin age i cant even get up some days and my doc keeps giving me the same creams all the time i feel like it is ruining my life …..
No its not curable, ive had eczema since i was 7, im 17 now so ive had it for about 10 years. it doesnt cure, but does get better over the years. as it gets better it leaves pale patches of skin which stay like that, i dont think you can tan it either.
I was just diagnosed with this yesterday. I have nummular eczema, errrrrr. I have it on my ankle, both legs, my hip and both arms. The spots have been there for months. I hope it doesnt spread to my face. The cream my doctor gave me made my skin go pale where I applied it, so I have white circles everywhere… what the hell!!!!??
I was that bad once. It turns out my allergies show up through my eczema. I’m now taking antihistamines to stop myself from scratching my skin. It’s done wonders. I’m also taking allergy shots so that in the future I hopefully won’t be so bad.
Good luck!
omg is eczema really incurable?
It’s good to know that I’m not the only one :P. At the moment it’s all flared up on my back, the back of my legs, my armits and this yellow stuff comes out of my ears when I scratch them, which is basically just dead skin. I’m starting to do it subconsiously which becomes more of a problem, especially in the summer. When I go to sleep is probably the worst time too. I think that doing any pyshical excercise is a no-no. It makes me sweat, gets me hot and then I scratch. But, doctors tommorow :D.
valid point. but also for some people the sweat or raising the body temp like that through exercise can aggrivate the skin
nm……
EXERCISE IS the only way to fight off eczema. i do it everyday. trust me on this. it makes the immune system stronger,,
i used to wear a jaket to cover it up
but i cant anymore. so now i wear pants
ya its true. thats what my docter said would help it. (and guess what. my dad got me a pool!)
bye-bye excema during the summer time for me thank, god :O)
oh yeah? i thought sunlight/UV Ray was a known option to help fight off flare ups
bleh i hate my eczema
i have it from head to toe. hopefully one day, there will be a cure. till then, taking care of our skin is important
Hard water has aggrivated mine the most. When I studied in London and moved to England permanently, the hard water made my skin go crazy. Every time I was back in the U.S. briefly I was in a soft water area and it nearly went completely away, and didn’t have to use steroid creams nearly as much. Hardly at all in fact. I’m in the U.K. now and just got a water softener installed and am very happy about it.
So if diet and allergies have been ruled out, check your water hardness!
i think summers are more bad for me because i have eczema on both of my arms and i cant wear a normal shirt….. but i wear jackets instead ( but im really glad i never got teased because of this =] )
I think you need something thicker that Cetaphil! Try Eucerin or Aquafor, it worked great for me
Have you tried applying hydro cortisone? You should try putting Aquafor on your legs right after you shower. (At night preferably so you can let it absorb, it take a while) I hope it helps!
(I like cetaphil for my body and Eucerin Calming Cream for my face.)
**Aquafor is really thick but it works wonders on calming eczema! I use at night and apply a decent amount on whatever breakout I have. It takes a litte bit to absorb and you’ll look like a greaseball
but you’ll look 10x better in the morning!
3. Don’t wear irritative clothing. That fuzzy cheap F21 material may look cute but it can trigger those rashes!
I have really bad breakouts but I’ve learned to prevent them!
1. STAY OUT OF THE SUN! and if you must go out into the sun wear a strong sunblock and keep applying!
3. MOISTURIZE! Always keep your body moisturized. Since eczema has to do with extremely dry skin, use an extremely hydrating cream instead of a lotion.
2. If you have a breakout, DON’T SCRATCH! I know it’s really itchy but it’ll only make it worse and you can get unsightly scars!
wearing clothes once then washing, not using too much detergent in the wash, staying out the sun, basically not letting minor triggers affect you that’ll lead to you going mind crazy and scratching like a nutter :P. oh and drink water!!! hope some if any of this helps. good luck! it sucks having eczema but there are worst diseases in this world to have. the mind is a powerful healing tool so don’t let this disease control you!
hey hey i feel everyone’s pain. i’ve had dry skin all my life but only last year got it really bad and to the stage where it covered my entire body. it took me months for it to completely go away but only recently is it coming back. i think they key to it all is to find out waht your triggers are. for me it was stress. and also being away from home (had moved to college). the other factor that seems to help is consistency. moisturising after your morning shower and throughout they day…
Omg i have exma on my legs it only come out in summer and that is thet time where shorts nd skits come out but i always were trusers and in pe i have to have a note to wear joggie bottoms as i cnt wear shots because it shows it
Any idears on wheat to do im only 13 need help but really self consious!!!!
