Book Review: Victoria Boutenko’s “Raw Family” and “12 Steps to Raw Food”

Posted under Book/Product Reviews by Audrey Lynn

Since I read the Victoria Boutenko’s article and what she preaches about raw food, I could not help but bought 2 of her books: “Raw Family: The True Story of Awakening” and “12 Steps to Raw Food: How to End Your Addiction to Cooked Food”. Both of the books are great read and a sort of an “awakening” for me.

Raw Family: A True Story of Awakening

rawfoodfamily.jpgI got to say this is the first Raw book I have read. Although I am a health freak, going raw has not been part of my plan. The thought of going totally raw is just seem impossible. Except for trying to increase my intake of fruits and juices, I do not see how I can be more ‘raw’ that that. This book is definitely an eye opener for me. What I like about this book is I get to be in the lives of the Boutenkos from how they were before the big decision of going raw to their amazing experience after going raw. It is heartening to read about Victoria’s son, Sergei, being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, which is deemed to be incurable by the doctors. And that was the turning point for the family when the whole family decide to go raw together. It is very inspiring to read about their experience which none of the other raw recipe books can relate. There is also a recipe section which they share their easy, daily recipes. These recipes seems easy and practical enough to any raw food beginners.

12 Steps to Raw Foods: How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food

12steps.jpgBeing someone who has been eating cooked food all my life, going raw seems too impossible. But this book just change my mindset. This is a revised edition which contains even more information than the first edition which is already very popular. This book is perfect if you are interested in eating raw but do not know how or where to start, hence the title “End your dependency on cooked food”. The most profound addition to this latest edition of her book is her research on adding more greens in her diet. The book detailed her research on discovering greens is the most important food in our diet. Her book talks at length about her now popular Green Smoothie. I like Victoria’s personal and informal style of writing. Her book strikes the perfect balance of scientific and personal anecdotes which makes the book such a joy to read. This is a must read for those who are looking to improve their health.
