Although the best way to get all the essential nutrients is through whole food consumption, it may not be possible due to our busy lifestyles or fussy eating habits of our children. Many of us fall back on nutritional supplements to ensure we feed our body all the essential nutrients. If you decide to use supplement then my suggestion is that you at least include these in your daily supplements: a good multivitamin, a daily fiber (from green vegetables) supplement, and an omega-3 cod liver oil.
Make sure your choices come from organic sources and aren’t synthetic. The body knows the difference between the real and the false and will respond accordingly. The human body is a smart machine and cannot be underestimated in that regard. It is found that synthetic supplements do more harm that good to our body.
There are so many factors that you have to consider if you choose to go into supplementation; such as knowing the chemical relationship between the vitamin and minerals, and also knowing which vitamins carry the risk of over-dosage. In addition to that, many people can tend to develop a false sense of security in supplementation. What I mean by this is that they will focus on supplementation through pills, herbs, and oils; while at the same time, eating poorly. As a result of the poor diet, the process of supplementation is being contradicted. Taking vitamins is not an excuse to eat poorly. The most important health benefit is , and remains to be, a healthy diet.
